Co. Clare has ranked third for the most solar panels installed per capita in Ireland
6th August 2024
A recent study has found that County Clare has one of the highest rates of solar PV installations per capita in Ireland, while Dublin has one of the lowest.
According to an analysis of SEAI and CSO data, Clare had nearly 35 installations per 10,000 people in the first half of 2024, compared to Dublin's 22 per 10,000.
SEAI figures indicate that Clare saw 445 solar installations in the first six months of this year.
This translates to 34.93 installations per 10,000 people.
Across Ireland, there were a total of 13,498 grant-assisted solar installations in the first half of 2024.
County Meath had the highest number of installations per capita during this period, with neighboring Louth close behind.
Interestingly, the only county in the 'sunny southeast' to rank in the top five is Wexford, though Carlow and Kilkenny are in the top ten.
County Clare and the other four counties in the top five are also among the ten sunniest counties in Ireland.
Longford had the lowest installation rate per capita in the first half of 2024, with 16.08 installations per 10,000 people.
The SEAI reported only 74 grant-assisted installations in Longford during this period.
Following Longford, the next lowest rates were found in three Ulster counties: Monaghan, Donegal, and Cavan. Dublin, despite having the highest overall number of solar panel installations, ranked fifth from the bottom in installations per capita.
